The Ethiopian Medical Women Association (EMeWA) was established on May 8th, 2017, by 13 passionate and dedicated female physicians to bridge the gap between opportunities and challenges faced by physicians and women in communities. It is a legally registered professional society under license number 3809 on June 16, 2017 from CSO.
The primary focus of the association is to work on professional development of female physicians by optimizing knowledge and skills with up to date information in health care through trainings and workshops. EMeWA promotes the rights of female physicians including gender-based violence and workplace discrimination. Another focus is serving the female population in need of health care. EMeWA exists as a platform for women physicians in Ethiopia to reach their full potential.
We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
We strives to achieve greater representation of women in medicine at advanced career paths professionally and enhance their contribution to improving women’s health and the well being of communities.
It also aspires to create a society in which medical women’s contributions in all aspects of life and health is recognized, rewarded and celebrated.
We have the vision to develop a culture in which Ethiopian women and those in medicine enjoy equal rights and participation in re-imagined power and decision-making structures.
